Kondagaon Workshop – Day One

The Saathi Sanstha Centre in Kumharpara

After a successful time in Narayanpur, we have come to the picturesque Saathi Sanstha centre in Kumharpara for another one. Saathi Sanstha is an organisation dedicated to the preservation of rural skills and handicrafts and we are all very happy to be in this place. There is a small gallery here with examples of sculptures made from wood, metal and earthenware.

These elephants were made by local artists

Our journey here was briefly marred by a mishap with the local bus. Luckily, nobody was hurt (though one particular blogger was very scared).

Everybody was fine (except the bus). We were saved by that Imli tree.

There are around 30 participants at this workshop. It has a very different vibe to the previous one. Narayanpur was mainly attended by Gondi young people from the District and had the associated chaos of working with (and organising!) excitable teenagers.

Here, the participants are a mixture of Sarpanches (heads of a village), social activists and local farmers. They all have an interest in improving rural people’s voice. Still, the process of teaching is basically the same: after an introduction session everybody split into smaller groups led by CGNet workers Mohan Yadav, Gokharan Verma, Lalsu Ngoti, Vinesh Kondra and Amar Marhavi.

Gokaran Verma leads a discussion about CGNet's purpose
